This position strategically leads Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), Loss Prevention (LP) and US Workers Compensation (WC) programs for Smiths Medical North America (SMNA) operations to reduce the risk of injuries, environmental releases and ensure regulatory compliance. This position leads the implementation of EHS/LP/WC management systems and programs, so that activities are effectively managed, continuously improved and aligned with regulations and Smiths Medical and Smiths Group policies and objectives. This position provides EHS/LP/WC oversight and specialized technical assistance, where required.

• Demonstrable success in driving the development of world class EH&S in a multi-site corporate environment.
• Experience of delivering performance improvements and driving change via functional links using influence, communication skills and technical expertise rather than through direct line management reporting structures.
• Experience of leading ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, or similar, best in class environment, health and safety management systems.
• A well developed understanding of EH&S requirements within the overall business context.
• Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of risk assessment and loss prevention in context of Safety & Security
• The ability to develop and present concise business cases tailored to the needs of the Division and the particular audience.
• Capable of assessing organisational weaknesses and providing recommendations for improvement.
• Experienced at identifying development needs of EHS personnel and, in conjunction with their supervisors, implement individual development plans.
• Well developed analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Bachelor’s Degree in a Safety, Technical and/or Engineering discipline.
• Certification as a Safety Professional is preferred.
• 8-10 years of progressive experience leading EHS/LP/WC in an international and multi-site organization, with a proven record of establishing premier programs and delivering significant continuous performance improvements. Experience in machining or heavy industrial manufacturing.

• Experienced at leading ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18801, or similar, best in class environmental, health and safety management systems.
• Able to develop and present concise business cases tailored to the needs of the organizations and audience. Strong influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to gain commitment at all levels within the organization.
• Proven ability to develop strong networks of relationships both internally and externally.
• Capable of assessing EHS organizational weaknesses and providing recommendations for improvement.
• Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk assessments and reduction, including machinery & process safety, industrial hygiene, loss prevention, ergonomics and occupational health.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to include presentation and training skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Skilled at using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
